Colonial School District, PA

A flourishing neighborhood bursting with trendy amenities.

The Colonial School District draws approximately 5,225 students from the Borough of Conshohocken, and the Townships of Plymouth and Whitemarsh in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, just northwest of Philadelphia. The Colonial School District encompasses seven school buildings, including four kindergarten through third grade schools, one for students in grades four and five, a middle school for students in grades six through eight, and Plymouth Whitemarsh High School for grades nine through 12. Each building provides sizeable classrooms that are equipped with the latest technology and teaching aids. Electronic key cards are used to access each building during the school day. Access to each building is also controlled electronically with a state-of-the-art system that allows staff to visibly identify who is entering the building. Each school has its own cafeteria to provide students and staff with nutritious hot and cold options for breakfast and lunch. Colonial students also may attend the Central Montco Technical High School located in Plymouth Township.

  • PWHS is considered to be among the top 50 high schools in Pennsylvania according to the annual rankings released by US News & World Report and recognized as the fourth best public high school in Montgomery County by Main Line Today.
  • PWHS was named a Top STEM High School by Newsweek for 2020. In Colonial’s STEAM Culture, teachers from all grade levels help students build a foundation in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math while developing creativity and critical thinking in all subject areas.
  • Nearly 400 Plymouth Whitemarsh High School (PWHS) seniors received diplomas at a live commencement ceremony in June 2021. One hundred twenty-five class members graduated with a cumulative grade point average of 4.0 or higher. Eighty-five percent are continuing their education in four- or two-year colleges. Nine students are entering the military.
  • The PWHS Class of 2021 also included two National Merit Finalists and 131 Advanced Placement (AP) Scholars. Members of the class are receiving scholarships and grants totaling more than $14 million.
  • Conshohocken Elementary school was recognized by the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s Division of Federal Programs as a Title I Distinguished School for the 2018-2019 school year. The honor places CE among the top five percent of high achieving Title I schools.
  • Colonial students traditionally fare well in state and national competitions. In the past six years, District students have won eight first-place trophies at the Technology Student Association National Conference.
  • Unique block schedules at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School and Colonial Middle School provide students and teachers with ample time to explore material and topics in depth each day.
  • With average class sizes of 18-23 and a 13-to-1 student-teacher ratio, Colonial’s intimate classrooms allow for one-on-one and small group differentiated instruction.
  • Nearly 93 percent of Colonial School District teachers have at least a master's degree.
  • The CSD’s nationally recognized Master Teacher Program provides leadership and career ladder opportunities and is now in its second decade. More than six dozen teachers have earned Master Teacher status since the program began in 2001.
  • Moody’s ranks CSD among the most financially stable school districts in Pennsylvania with a Aaa rating. Colonial is one of just seven school districts in the Commonwealth to have an Aaa rating.
  • Colonial continues to maintain the third lowest tax rate in Montgomery County.

Local Lifestyle

Colonial is home to incredible shopping and dining spots set on quaint historic streets. Conshohocken’s walkable downtown area is laden with delicious restaurants and small shops, while Plymouth Meeting features large shopping malls and beloved chains.

Great food and a pleasant atmosphere for the whole family awaits at Flanigan’s Boathouse. Stop by for dinner or enjoy their expansive selection of craft beers while you watch your favorite team. Jasper’s Backyard is a rustic-chic dining experience full of fresh American eats. Pepperoncini serves dazzling Italian fare in a homey environment, while Bar Lucca serves tapas-style Italian against a backdrop of chic red brick walls.

Since its establishment in 1926, Flocco’s has proudly served Conshohocken with the finest designer elegance. Another local staple is Maple Acres Farm, which sells local produce and farm goods directly from Plymouth Meeting. For everyday essentials and larger shopping excursions, Colonial residents can take advantage of the Metroplex Mall and the nearby Plymouth Meeting Mall, which has a Dave and Buster’s, a Whole Foods, and other recognizable stores.

Things to Do

The Colonial School District area is full of beautiful nature and places to enjoy the outdoors. Whether you want to spend the day on the river or the green, there’s something for everyone.

Get out on the Schuylkill River with the Conshohocken Rowing Center, which has teams and camps for all ages. There are also numerous country clubs available to those who live within the Colonial School District, such as Green Valley Country Club and The 1912 Club.

Sutcliffe Park sits in the heart of Conshohocken and is a favorite for its baseball and basketball facilities, well-maintained playground, and gorgeous walking trails. Fort Washington State Park is a magnificent park that’s popular with hikers and picnickers. Legoland Discovery Center is an excellent place for families to spend the day, with a 4D cinema and hands-on building experiences.
